Marbella Day 4 - Boat Trip to Marbella

We are about 8 km outside of the old town of Marbella and were advised that parking was very difficult. On our walk about the harbour the other day, we noticed a catamaran ferry service that would take us there so we decided to give it a try. It was a pleasant ride on an 80 ft catamaran sailboat, providing a nice view of the waterfront between Puerto Banus and Marbella.

We didn't really know what to expect in Marbella as our travel guide had little information other than it is Costa del Sol's classiest resort area and had an attractive "old town". After arriving we left the marina area and found a lovely pedestrian avenue lined with replica Dali sculptures.

This led to the lovely Alameda Park with its colourful tile benches.

From here we started exploring the old town which has some of the narrowest streets we have encountered.

Lots of cafe's, bars, restaurants, designer boutiques, antique stores and craft shops.

We ate lunch in the Plaza de los Naranjos, "Orange Tree Square", which dates back to 1485, full of tropical plants, palms and orange trees.

We had a look inside the Ntra. Sra. de la Encarnacion Church, full of elaborate statues depicting biblical events.

We wandered to a nearby park and took a tour of a Bonsai Museum, very interesting looking at some of the decades old miniature plants. I think we are a bit too old to start this as a hobby.

We wandered some more streets and then returned to the waterfront for a cold beverage and wait for our boat to return to Puerto Banus. It's amazing the amount of fake purses and sunglasses for sale by Senegalese street vendors and the police seem to do little to stop it. And they are selling right outside of the real shops!

Some more waterfront views from the return trip....

As we approached port, we noticed that the Russians were playing with their water toys.

We stopped at a waterfront restaurant and got a prime seat to watch the glitzy people and wannabe's cruising their luxury cars and walking to supper in their designer clothes.

The sun was just setting as we finished dinner and started to head home. I had a chance to do a bit of low light photography.

We were pretty tired when we got home. We logged in excess of 20,000 steps today so it was an early bedtime.
