Our last full day in Lisbon and we didn't really have too much planned. We spent some time in the morning getting things arranged for our train trip to Porto tomorrow and booking an all day wine tour and river cruise for Monday.
We don't have a washing machine in our next apartment so Chris decided to wash the clothes we had worn. It took some time on the web searching for a manual for the German washing machine that we could understand. We got it loaded and it started churning, stopping, churning some more.... for 2 1/2 hours while we waited to go out exploring. We gave up and went out with the machine still humming. A great piece of German engineering??? My BMW can go 0-100 kph in 4.5 seconds. You would think they could make a washing machine that could go a little faster.
It was now lunch time so we walked down the hills again.
We ended up at the waterfront at the Time Out Market. A fabulous warehouse half full of restaurants and food kiosks and the other half a farmer's market.
We selected a sit down at a Chef's Table experience. There is only one thing on the menu prepared fresh right in front of you.
A great chicken salad with zucchini and spinach, berry trifle and bottomless wine.
Made us forget the washing machine incident.
From there we wandered the waterfront, not nearly as busy with no cruise ships in harbour. We spent some time lounging and watching the harbour activity.
We went to the Lisboa Story Centre which had a good presentation on the history of the city.
Next we took the elevator up the Arco da Rua Augusta to the observation deck. Nice views of the city from there.
As we ambled back to the apartment, we decided to ride the famous Tram 28 which ambles through the older parts of town.
The problem was that this was now late afternoon and the traffic made for a long ride on a crowded old tram. I would recommend doing this early in the day.
We had another nice tapas supper overlooking the river and returned to the apartment to get ready to travel to Porto tomorrow.
