Marbella Day 2 - Looking at Toys

We are staying in Puerto Banus which is just outside of Marbella Spain. We are in a villa development that is about a 2 km walk from the waterfront and beach.

We were told that parking is a little tough to find so we decided to walk and it was quite enjoyable until we had to go back uphill on the way home.

The beach here is very nice. It is definitely past prime tourist season but there is still some activity and all of the beach restaurants and cabana rentals are still open. It is obvious that a lot of Britain vacations here.

After getting to the waterfront, we did a walk along the breakwater. Some nice views of the beach and mountains. Heading back to the marina we noticed one very large yacht tied up and had to investigate. ACE (275 ft long) is owned by a Russian real estate developer and cost $120M in 2012.

Apparently, you can charter it for 1M euro a week ($1.5M). It accommodates 10 in style so that would only be $150,000 each.

It comes complete with a 167 ft tender called Garçon which has all of the water toys you will need plus a Bell 407 helicopter.

It sort of makes the other typical 70 - 100 ft yachts look common.

The waterfront is lined with every designer store you could ever imagine, Gucci, Rolex, Fendi, etc.

We stopped at a Fake British Pub for a drink and snacked and watched the world roll by, going to their yachts and driving around. An abundance of high end cars. I could have rented this Ferrari for only 300 euro for the day. Only 15x more expensive than the VW Polo we are driving.

The one really cool car that I saw that would be great to own was a 1972 BMW 2002 on a classic car lot. Pristine condition with only 3,700 km on the odometer!

We walked the promenade past several beach restaurants and observed the authentic way they cook seafood tapas on outdoor reflective grilles. Sardines and shrimp.

We walked back to our villa and sat on the upper terrace and read our books before heading out to a nearby restaurant for Tapas. This is a great way to eat supper without getting that overstuffed feeling.

Realizing tomorrow was going to be a major national holiday with a lot of places shut down, we made a detour to the grocery store to pick up a contingency meal in case we have a hard time finding something open tomorrow.
